During the Asian trading session on Friday, the U.S. dollar index (DXY) maintained a slight fluctuation around 99.50. Despite hawkish www.xn--xm-5s9cx14e.comments from Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, rising bets on a rate cut in December have undermined his influence.
According to the CMEFedWatch tool, the market currently expects a 71% probability that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates by 25 basis points in December, which is higher than 66% the day before but lower than 91% earlier this week.
Investors generally believe that the Federal Reserve may adopt a "wait-and-see strategy" before the data resumes.
Powell said at the press conference after the meeting: "The current lack of data makes it difficult for us to balance the dual goals of controlling inflation and maintaining employment."
This statement reflects the constraints imposed by the U.S. government shutdown on monetary policy, and also means that future policy decisions will rely more heavily on real-time market signals.
In Wednesday's resolution, the Federal Reserve voted 10 to 2 to cut interest rates by 25 basis points, lowering the federal funds rate range to 3.75%-4.00%. However, the decision was not unanimous: Governor Stephen Millan advocated a 50 basis point cut, while Kansas City Fed President Jeffrey Schmid voted to keep rates on hold.
Market analysts believe that this disagreement shows that the assessment of the economic situation within the Federal Reserve is not unified. Some members are worried about the risk of inflation, while others are concerned about the hidden worries of slowing growth.
Market analyst James Rowell pointed out: "This result helps to ease global trade concerns, but also weakens the safe-haven demand for the US dollar and stabilizes the exchange rate."
From the daily chartLooking at it, the U.S. dollar index has maintained an upward channel since mid-October and is currently consolidating near 99.50. The short-term moving average (MA20) is supported at 98.90, and the long-term moving average (MA50) is running at 98.20, indicating that the medium-term trend is still bullish.
But technical indicators show that the upward momentum is weakening: the relative strength index (RSI) is hovering around 60, and if it falls below 50, it will trigger a correction signal. The upper resistance level is between 100.20 and 100.80, and the lower support level is focused on 98.90 and 98.20. If the price falls below 98.20, it will mean that the short-term uptrend has ended and the price has entered a correction phase.
